Living La Vida Loophole

Being an illegal alien can have its advantages -- if you're a criminal.
In our court system, it can lead to the dismissal of criminal charges against you, charges that would result in a penalty for the average American citizen. Mecklenburg County Assistant District Attorney Stephen Ward says he regularly wastes time preparing cases only to show up to court and find out that the defendant he was prosecuting was an illegal alien and has been deported by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
"They swoop them up without so much as a 'Do you folks mind?'" Ward says. "They take them and never tell us about it while I keep preparing for court."
Because the deportations are triggered by bond proceedings and occur before conviction, many illegal alien criminals are being deported from the country without being tried on the criminal charges that led to their arrests or serving time for their crimes ...

The problem is politicians. The solution is representatives. The day is coming, sooner than you think, to replace all 435 of the politicians in the U.S. House with true representatives of the people. I hope you will give the concept consideration when the time comes.

I think ICE is letting the Meck DA's office off the hook.

So these illeals commit a crime in Charlotte. According to Tara's own articles, what'rethe chances of them being convicted of anything? What's the chance of a felony plea down? What's the chance of them--if convicted/pleaing--actually doing any jail time?

The DA should be thrilled that the feds are getting this overflow out of the NC system, which can't handle them anyway.

Tara, I have missed you at the 9:00 PM night show. This article is a bulls eye, as to the crazy homeland security incompetance, and it is damning to the head of this expensive department. Director Chertoff is noting but a political hack for President Bush, and the chamber of commerce. These two men are not going to do anything about the illegal invasion of the worlds criminals into our blessed America! We are in trouble when the President is a player on the other side. Personally, I'm concerned for my one little (12 years old) grandaughter. Being 64 years old I know I've seen the best of America. My son is 41 years old, and I feel for both! God help this republic. Political correctness be damned, as it is the curse of the 21 st century. Thanks for your wonderful love of America! Ed Shropshire
