Cinday Sheehan Slams Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, Throws Tantrum

It's just so hard to participate in free speech in a country where you can't have those who disagree with you silenced, jailed or killed, peace activist Cindy Sheehan learned on Wednesday. Had this been Venezuela, the country ruled by Sheehan's communist dictator buddy Hugo Chavez -- whose political rivals tend to disappear or wind up dead -- local police would have simply dragged off those who disagreed with her. Sheehan apparently thought that's what Charlotte-Mecklenburg police should do as well.
After Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers refused to make those who disagreed with her go away, Sheehan aborted her planned protest at Bryant Park in Charlotte yesterday. Sheehan refused to speak to those who had gathered unless police removed members of the protest group Gathering of Eagles and other veterans who had come to counter her message. Sheehan later issued an angry press release slamming the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

"At the School of the Assassins in Columbus, Ga and in Charlotte, NC, we ran into similar problems: police presence that seemed to be there to foster violence," Sheehan wrote. "At both places the neo-Nazi, pro-war fascist group "Gathering of Eagles" came out to mostly try to intimidate us from our mission."
"At Ft. Benning after we complained, the police kept them separate from us, but in Charlotte, the police refused saying that the Eagles had their rights to "freedom of speech," Sheehan continued. "But the Eagles' freedom of speech has included physical threats against me and actual physical force against kids and women. When the Charlotte police were told this, they said that they couldn't keep them apart from our group until the Eagles actually did something. So I chose to stay away from the rally then go and perhaps cause them to hurt someone else because of my presence."

Sorry, Cindy. This ain't Venezuela. (But I'm sure those fleeing that dictatorship to apply for political asylum here could enlighten Sheehan on what it is really like there.)
Sheehan has apparently been spending so much time chumming around in communist dictatorships that she has become confused about how the First Amendment works back home.

"Freedom of speech is one thing, but I don't believe that the First Amendment protects violent speech, especially if it is one of the neocons or their media supporters calling for increased violence in the Middle East," Sheehan wrote in the press release. "Nothing about our movement promotes or calls for violence and it would be swell if the CPD protected everyone's First Amendment rights, not just people whom they agree with."

That's pretty snippy for a woman who didn't even bother to pay the fee beforehand to reserve Bryant Park, but then expected to have it cleared of everyone who wasn't sporting something with a "crucify Bush" slogan on it.
Last January, Sheehan and Chavez came together to slam America after a warm embrace for the cameras.

Sheehan and Hugo Chavez grin for the cameras in January shortly before Chavez declared, "Enough already with the imperialist aggression! Down with the U.S. empire! It must be said, in the entire world: Down with the empire!"

I felt like the police protected everyone's rights. I thought they did a very good job. But this is Cindy so it is the sort of blinkard philistine pig ignorance I have come to expect from such non-creative garbage.

I will give her this: She was calling for an end to the senseless war before a lot of other people were. As it turns out, if the gov would have listened to her, we could have saved over 1000 american troops from death, and countless others from being maimed.

Admit it people: She was right.

Right or wrong...The president took us into this war and now we can not leave until the mess is cleaned up. Anyone that thinks we will be able to leave iraq in a peaceful state is naive. There is too much internal struggle there between parties that hate each other and they always have and they always will. To those who want say this is just a war on terror are naive as well. If this was just about terrorist we have a strong southern border and we would be fighting Al Qaida in all the countries where they are strong and protected by the respective governments.

If you need validation to back up the poster's comment, all you need to do is look at the civilian deaths that took place after we left Vietnam.

But, then again, I must be wrong -- Democrats are so concerned about "The People"...lol

I wasn't there, so I don't know, but if people were literally threatening Cindy and others present, then the thugs should have been arrested. When you start yelling threats at people, you've crossed the line. If you were out in public and some guy started threatening to kill you and the Police just laughed, would you stick around? Somehow I doubt it.

To be fair, Cindy is not happy with Chavez over the TV station he effectively had shut down in Venezuela. She knows that free speech is essential to freedom.

Obviously many do not remember Viet Nam. That was a senseless conflict and upwards of 40,000 lost their lives, for what coffee beans. Okay so many young Americans have lost their life in Iraq, however would everyone prefer riding a bicycle, gas is $8 a gallon in the UK and looking over your shoulder everytime we are in a crowded space? The socialist will destroy more of our freedoms if they ever get control more than many think they have lost already. Just look at the illegal alien problem and the costs taxpayers have to pay now, trust me it will get much worse unless all Americans do more then just blog.
