Simple Immigration Fixes Can Work
They say it can't be done. Twelve to 20 million illegal immigrants can't be deported. We don't have the agents to round them up. And of course it would be impossible for these fragile people to return home by themselves, never mind that according to a Charlotte Observer article last year, illegal immigrants and their families think nothing of returning home to Mexico for Christmas and then spending $2,000 on a coyote to get back to the U.S.
But an article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution shows how a new law in Georgia simply requiring car buyers to have a valid Georgia driver's license -- which is hard to come by in that state if you are here illegally -- is having a dramatic impact. Imagine what would happen if buying a home or renting an apartment required a valid Georgia ID as well?
Tara- I heard your show on this topic, and it was what I have said all along- Make it harder (not easier) on the illegals, and they will not "want" to stay here or come in the first place.In addition, cut off all the "benefits" (welfare, free programs), and the problem of illegals may just go away on its own.Sure they are looking for a better life, aren't we all, but come in Legally, and you may find more acceptance.And as far as a government "intervention", (as you said in previous shows), they want to keep them here. I have to agree, or they'd be gone. Go Georgia! I hope NC & SC will do the same with steeping up its laws.

If we would simply prosecute employers who knowingly employ illegal aliens (or fail to verify them), the illegals would have no reason to stay in the U.S. Pull out the welcome mat, and they will flee our great nation. If you don't love this country enough to abide by our laws and culture - get OUT!

Everyone always says to "go after the employers"- True, but what about going after the slumlord that allows 10-12 adults to live in a 3 bedroom house. Are THEY not harbouring criminals? Maybe if the slumlord had a "consequence" in this matter, they would not rent to them and the illegals would have no place to go, except back wherever he/she came from.

So let me get this straight. Ga. does something that causes dramatic effect on number of illegals in their state. Where did they go? Other states. Then other states pass the same bill, and pretty soon "illegals" are out of places to go and they go back home. Then we have no more "illegals". Now what? THere's no one to pick crops, work restaurants, construction, and many other low wage jobs that we don't want to do. So prices go sky high, Mexico's economy tanks (putting much more added pressure on our economy) and life in general is harder for everyone. Hmmm...I'm not sure I like that idea actually.
Oh, and it will probably take years to accomplish, more will come across the border, others will figure out how to skip on all the regualtions and comeback to all our states to work.
Some progress huh?

Michael- Are you a Democrat? You seem to be "ok" with having undocumented people in this country stealing identities, ssn's,fake Drivers licenses, etc. with no way to track these people, their whereabouts, whether or not they are selling drugs, getting DUI's, etc. Not to mention the burden they place on our healthcare, education, and welfare/social programs.All this so you can save a few cents at the checkout at Wal Mart? You need to stop watching American Idol and tune in to some of the facts presented daily by Tara and the other talk-radio programs. If the Government would just secure our borders, come up with a real plan to do background checks and help those into the country that WANT to work, then there will be plenty of jobs picking peaches, cutting grass or whatever for them. Meanwhile, they have an ample crop of able bodied people that collect a welfare check each month that complain that they can't find a job, because of all the illegals.

Bruce, just admit it...you can't stand anyone and I mean anyone who is not 100% completely from here. You must hate yourself and your family because if you trace your family back you will find that YOUR family came here the same way too. Also I know many folks here of many backgrounds too and the majority of folks that you speak of that are here illegally are not doing drugs or crap like that, just check the arrest records you fool and you will see that the majority of crimes are committed by Americans from the USA. Folks like you just don't have a clue and never will. It's not a Christian or American thing to hate someone because of their accent or color of skin. That type of crap is for others that live in other areas of the world. That's why folks come here too, not just to earn a honest living, but to have a life at all. I'm an American born & raised here that has lived in South America for two years straight and can say as a dad, I don't blame them for coming here for a better life for their families. I've never been hurt by someone from another country, nor has any of my family members. Call it like it is, racism! Hate of someone will ALWAYS LOSE and Love & Understanding of someone will ALWAYS WIN. The truly educated know and practice this. I say to you...get a life and learn something!!! By the way Michael is right, just study it out. They are here and are not going anywhere. I am a Cub Scout Leader with seven boys in it and only two of them are US citizens. The rest of them speak correct English and Spanish and wear the complete Cub Scout Uniform of the USA! Folks like you ignore facts like this just to prove your incorrect ideas. I can give several more examples because rather than whine and moan about them I've actually gotten out and lived from where they are coming from and gotten to know them and am helping them because I know them just like I will help my American (US) friends too. No real difference other than the fact one group has someone loving to hate them and the other group, us white folks, doesn't have to worry about that. I challenge anyone and everyone to truly dig into the situation and be honest with what is there...people trying to survive and wanting the best for their families too! THAT'S NOT A CRIME! If I was in their shoes I would do the same and I would bet that you would too.

WHERE did I say that I HATE anyone? Did you not read my prior post, where I stated that IF they would come here LEGALLY, then they would be more welcomed. Otherwise they are here ILLEGALLY, and that is what I am against. We have no idea who is coming here and where they are from, or what their motives are for being here. There are lots of people coming into this country illegally,(Some posing as Mexican), and they are in fact Muslims from the Middle East. Do we have to "love them too" just because they don't like or understand Christianity, and may possibly one day decide to overtake this country? Or what about the ones that come that are part of gang activity? The ones you speak of sound like OK people- WHY are they illegal? We NEED to know and do background checks on ALL people coming into this country. You are not going to tell me that everyone sneaking in here are looking for a job, not costing the government for welfare, not getting arrested. I KNOW that not ALL of them are doing these things either, but we currently have no way to check, and it's the bad apples spoiling it for the rest of the bunch. I worked with a group of people (in manufacturing), and you could not ask for better employees. They worked hard,always willing to work overtime, holidays weekends, etc. And Yes some of them were probably illegal- (I was not at liberty to ask status, that was up to the temp agency that sent them)Communication was a problem sometimes, not understanding what I needed done or how. Some of the American workers complained all the time, it was too hot, had to stand too long, couldn't work weekends, etc,etc. So when you say that I hate, or don't know or understand the Hispanics, you are dead wrong. But they NEED to be legal, and they need to learn English. And an across the board "amnesty" would not be the answer either, or we'll be stuck taking the bad along with the good.

Maybe Carl is very helpful in living and learning with these people for the last few years, but look at the drain in which these illegals put upon our health care system. Have you been to the doctor lately? next time please count the numbers of whites who are waiting to see the doctor? You say that you have not been hurt by any of those people, tell that to the victims of illegals driving drunk, w/o license, in a stolen car, which killed all three passengers in the the car they hit while driving on the wrong side of the interstate. Fortunately my health is good and i dont spend my time wasting it in doctors offices trying to jack up the system with phoney charges and ailments. What about those illegals whose only means of being here is the baby they had just inside the border. Come on over here and count the numbers of stair step children born to illegals in one county. you wont have enough paper to keep count on. Boy when the census came through in 2000, where were they then? sure not at home i did one fourth of the county and didnt see too many then but all those empty houses we had to count sure didnt stay empty for long after that. Im not even gonna talk about stolen ids and ssn's. just too big an issue for such a small page. Just look at the number of jobs licensed contractors lose, laying foundations in my county for all the illegals who do them with ten head in one day. for what $40-$50 a day in cash. no tracing cash. im losing track of thought of all the trash caused by the illegal problems. but i know we need to do something before we lose what our grandfathers and fathers shed blood for. Keep this in mind, the fifth column is working and we dont even see it stabbing us in the back.
