While the $1 billion Congress approved in 2005 to build a 700-mile border fence sits unused in Department of Homeland Security coffers, violent illegal alien gang members are making a break for our borders.
More will surely come here once they learn that they can use their violent pasts both here and in their native countries to claim that they will be killed if they are deported. This Los Angeles Times story describes how out-of-control gangs have terrified the public in countries like Guatemala by imposing "war taxes" on civilians passing through their turf to get to their homes and businesses.
To fight back, the police in Guatemala have taken to forming death squads to hunt gang members down at night. To save illegal alien gang members from these death squads, some American judges are allowing them to claim political asylum once they cross our borders. It's a frightening precedent that is sure to bring the gang violence and "war taxes" here.
